On October 13th, Cleanwatts participated in the transformative seminar “Transição Energética em Ilhas: O papel das Comunidades de Energia Renovável” organized by Coopérnico. Held at the Auditório da Câmara Municipal da Lagoa in São Miguel, Azores, this event marked a significant step in discussing the energy transition in island communities.
Islands face distinct energy challenges due to their isolated geographies, which often lead to reliance on imported fossil fuels and higher energy costs. The seminar also delved into practical steps for energy transition in island communities. It highlighted the necessity of thoroughly understanding island-specific dynamics, including geographical, economic, and energy aspects. A key focus was on stakeholder engagement, ensuring the involvement of local communities and authorities in the transition process. The development of a clear vision and effective governance structures was emphasized, along with the importance of mapping current energy systems and identifying sectors crucial for decarbonization. Creating a strategic transition roadmap, selecting suitable technologies, exploring funding avenues, and executing sustainable projects formed the core of the action-oriented approach discussed.
The Clean Energy Transition Agenda (CETA) presented at the seminar aligns perfectly with our mission at Cleanwatts. It underscores the significance of stakeholder engagement, the selection of appropriate technologies, and the development of feasible, sustainable energy projects. This approach resonates with our vision of a renewable, fair, and responsible energy model, especially in the challenging yet promising context of island communities.
Our participation in this seminar has reinforced our commitment to leading the charge in transforming energy systems on islands. We are excited to be part of this journey, contributing to the creation of energy solutions that are not only environmentally sound but also socially and economically beneficial. Join us as we continue to explore and implement innovative strategies for a greener, more sustainable future.
